Description
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can be characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity that occurs in academic, occupational and social settings. Children who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) exhibit degrees of inattention or hyperactivity/ impulsivity that are abnormal for their ages. This can result in serious social problems including impairment of family relationships and failure to progress appropriately at school and in other endeavors. When appropriate diagnostic criteria are used, it is estimated that 3% to 5% of school age children are afflicted with ADHD. Ritalin and related stimulant medications are commonly prescribed for the treatment of ADHD.
